The Tandayapa lodge combines comfortable accommodations with top-notch service. The viewing terraces are the centerpiece of the lodge, and where you will generally find yourself before and after meals. Over 100 different bird species have been identified from the lodge’s main terrace alone. There is plenty of birding literature in the lounge area, helping you to identify the many different species you will encounter in the area.
Birds! Birds! Birds! This trip is all about the birds! Lets get going early with a 5:30AM pickup in Quito. We will make our first stop at the Yanacocha Reserve. Located about 1 hour from the city, this will be the highest elevation viewpoint on our itinerary. This is a pristine setting, giving us our first exposure to many hummingbird species. We then continue along the Nono-Mindo cloud forest route, arriving to the Tandayapa Lodge. We will pack in an afternoon of local birding, followed by a home-cooked meal and some possible nighttime viewing opportunities.
A full day of birding in the Tandayapa lodge. Today your guide will plan the itinerary with you, according to your preferences of physical activity level and target species. There will be an option of a packed lunch for those who wish to stay on the trails, or dining at the lodge if you prefer to stay nearby. The plan is to arrive back to Quito around 6PM. Departure times from the lodge will vary, according to your birding preferences for the day.

Today we visit the Milpe Bird Sanctuary, with an optional visit to the Mirador Rio Blanco. We will depart the lodge after breakfast and pack a lunch, as we have a full day of birding ahead of us, with a planned arrival of 6PM back in Quito.
